• 5 Tips for Creating “Real” Content on Your Golf Website

    Aaron Dyer  •  July 6, 2013

We all know that updating your golf facility's website or blog with fresh content is essential for attracting visitors and eliminating “bounces”.  But who has the time to write 2 or 3 articles every week?  I mean, it’s hard enough to keep up with the shop, lessons, outings, owners, board members, and those customers who want to give you a blow-by-blow history of their latest round.

One of the most important aspects of attracting and retaining loyal followers to your blog, Facebook page, and Twitter account is to have “real” and “interesting” content.   We’ve included 5 easy tips for turning your blog, website, and social media pages into interactive and informative destinations for your staff and customers.

 1.  Give Your Staff and Customers a Voice.

Provide the ability for some of your key staff members and customers to become authors and ask them to write at least one story per week.  Here are some examples:

Tournament Director:  He/She writes an article every week about upcoming events and the latest results from weekly outings.

Food & Beverage Manager: Here is a great opportunity to promote the restaurant including menu specials and upcoming dining or social events.

Superintendent: A regular course maintenance update is a no-brainer.  Your customers will look forward to a weekly update from your greens keeper.

Chef:  Get the chef to share some of his/her secret recipes or provide cooking  tips.

Golf Pro:  This is the most obvious one.  Tips?  Equipment Reviews? Enough said.

Interesting Customers:  We all can tell a few stories about customers who are really popular and fun.  They always have an interesting story to tell.  Why not let them become an author on your blog?

Note:  1-2-1 Marketing’s world-class CMS allows our customers to create authors and approve their content, including setting the publish date automatically.

2. Use Video.

Ask some of these staff members to take impromptu videos which highlight events, activities, and fun stories taking place at your club.   It goes without saying that providing video golf tips is a big hit as well.

Note:  Youtube video integration is included with every 1-2-1 Marketing website at no additional cost.

3.  Set-up an “Automatic” Facebook Update from your Blog.

Your website provider should be able to set-up a feature allowing all of your blog content to be posted automatically on your Facebook page saving you time and creating a “viral” effect for your content and online marketing.

Note:  1-2-1 Marketing’s powerful blog allows our customers to automatically post stories to Facebook and choose which categories get posted.

4. Take it Easy on Editing.

Give your staff and authors a little flexibility on grammar and content provided it is not giving away trade secrets.  This brings the human element to the forefront which is always attractive to readers.   You can always set up your administration and publishing settings to allow approval prior to any content going live.

5. Share Photos.

Everybody enjoys browsing images.  Encourage your staff members and customers to share photos on your blog and social media.  Great images can lead to great stories and they keep visitors coming back for more.
